To our appreciated pool supporters:
We would first like to thank all our members, guests, and community for the continued support over the years. As we plan for the upcoming season ahead, it has been with great thought and deep consideration how we move forward with the Inn Pool. With our sincerest respect and admiration for the history and sentimental value the pool has with its patrons, the challenge of keeping the pool open has forced us to make a decision on how to move forward with using the space as a public swimming pool.
It has come to our attention that many community members have heard the possibility of having to close the pool. We have recently updated our staff on the situation and a letter to our members was intended to be out next week. Our sincere apologies for learning this through the grapevine, it was never our intention for this to happen. Please excuse this post on social media as our first means of communication, it appears this venue may be the best way to reach everyone who has been in contact with us about this topic.
In our four years of ownership, we have implemented several new endeavors to increase pool interest over the years. We have succeeded in increasing pool memberships, invested in equipment and capital expenses, created water aerobics and swimming lesson programs, expanded and improved the grill food and beverage options, increased special events, partnered with local summer school programs, and raised awareness and exposure by advertising throughout the Pioneer Valley.
Even throughout our efforts to create a more sustainable business, we have faced many challenges which threaten our means to keep the pool open. Although the quaint history of the pool promotes its charm, we are faced with the reality that the existing pool was built in the 1930s and has several updates required in order to meet with new and existing state regulations each year. This expense is in addition to our annual expenses we are obligated to each season.
We are committed to creating a wonderful experience at this property. We have owned and operated the pool at a loss for the first four years as new owners, a challenge we inherited over the years. With substantial annual expenses and significant upgrades required for the upcoming season, we are currently unable to invest in the requirements to allow us to open as planned. In addition to the financial burden, we are currently in the process of being sued from a pool patron last season. Although this unfortunate situation is still in progress, we hold the liability as a high concern moving forward. We hope you can understand our stance on this matter.
Please know there have been many conversations and meetings regarding how to proceed with the pool; this is not an impulse decision we made based on any sole aspect. We have seen and heard all your stories about the memories you’ve made and have looked forward to making at the pool each summer. This weighs deep in our hearts, as it always has since we’ve been involved with the pool. We have deep admiration for this property and community, please know we have the best interest in mind throughout this decision process.
We appreciate your support and understanding of the difficult decision on hand. We hope our conclusion will ultimately result in a better opportunity for a gathering place in the community. We envision townspeople, visitors, families, and patrons of all ages able to meet, play, and socialize at this venue. It is a wonderful location for friends, family and the community to join together for small gatherings or simply a summer night.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
